Drug Out Reach Services

At risk youth that lack essential protective factors such as enduring family relationships, financial security, and educational opportunities, are especially vulnerable to substance use. To address this challenge, Santa Fe Adolescent Services developed the Drug Out Reach Services (DORS) to serve the youth of Tarrant County. Program design takes into consideration specific needs of families in crisis and those young people who are "wanting help and running out of places to look".

Program Overview:

Drug Out Reach Services provides community-based intervention and screening services to those families most in need of assistance, but are less likely to access needed mental health and substance abuse services. DORS can be requested by youth, a family member, as well as any other agencies providing assistance to youth and their families.

Program Goals/Objectives:

To provide individualized assistance to youth and families in accessing needed social services.

To educate the community about the effects of youth alcohol/drug abuse on individuals, families, and the community.

To enhance "protective factors" by providing youth with personal resources and surrounding him/her with a network of caring and supportive adults.

Program Design:

Community based intervention, screening and referral services.

Education presentations and on-going groups to any group needing them. Presentation topics include effects of alcohol, drugs, and tobacco, personal Growth and Life Skills seminars, as well as on-going education classes. Some of the community sites these activities are offered include alternative schools, community centers, churches, or anywhere that meets the needs of the community.

On site screening, assessment and referral services. These services are provided in homes, schools, community centers, or wherever meets the needs of the youth and/or family.

Individualized assistance is provided for families in making appointments and accessing other services as well as follow up to ensure that families have received needed services.
