Strengthening Families Program
For Youth Ages 10 -14 and their Families


The Strengthening Families Program (SPF) is a nationally recognized curriculum designed to:

  • Help parents build on their strengths in showing care & concern while setting limits.

  • Help youth develop skills to handle peer pressure and build a positive future.

  • Help families grow, affirm, and support each other.


Program Description:

  • Designed to build protective factors for youth and reduce family related risk factors for adolescents.

  • Includes seven session curriculum and two “booster” sessions.

  • Parents and youth meet separately for first hour than join together as a family for second hour.

  • Sessions held at various locations throughout the community.

  • Activities are interesting and engaging.

Helping Families:

  • Develop effective communication skills.

  • Build positive relationships with each other.

  • To appreciate the value of having fun together.

  • To access support through community resources.

Helping Youth:

Helping Parents


Develop a healthy future orientation.

Develop appreciation for their parents/caregivers.

Learn skills for dealing with peer pressure.

Develop tools to avoid problems with alcohol and other drugs.


Learn nurturing skills that support children.

Develop ways to effectively discipline and guide their youth.

Learn how to set limits in a caring manner.

Have a greater understanding of the challenges in their children’s lives.
